2011 Kinn Electrical

From 1st January 2005 new revisions of the Building Act 1984 come into effect. The changes focus on the "electrical safety in dwellings".

All domestic electrical installations (such as installation of a new circuit, any electrical work in the kitchen or bathroom or outside of the property, gardens, garages or outbuildings) are subject to approval by the Local Authority Building Control except in the case of electricians who are members of a Competent Person's scheme.

This eliminates the rogue traders who turn up to do work, don’t test it and don’t issue you with any paper work.

Any work carried out by myself will be guaranteed and certified with either an electrical installation certificate or a minor works certificate.

DIY Electrics
In a survey featured in "First Time Buyer" magazine, it was found that 41% of women regularly urge their other half to have a go at jobs around the home that they are not skilled to do, even though 51% said they worried it had been done correctly. Almost half (48%) of men said they would willingly have a go at home improvements if their partner asked them to, although 43% would be concerned that the work wasn't up to standard. Kinn Electrical offer FREE no obligation quotes, giving you peace of mind that the installation is up to the quality standard.

Down Lights Information
Kinn Electrical always supply and fit fire rated down lights. These have an incandescent seal and cover built into them. Most of the downlights available from DIY shops do not and therefore have to have additional hoods fitted at extra cost making these a more expensive option.

In the event of a fire, a plaster board ceiling provides fire burning time to stop the spread of fire from downstairs to upstairs. To fit a down light involves cutting a hole in the plaster board to allow fitting and this breaks the fire seal. Therefore an incandesant hood or fire rated downlight needs to be installed to reinstate this fire seal. If it is not reinstated and a fire occurs then it will spread easily throughout the house.
